The United States has promised to reduce its troops in Iraq in the coming months after talks with Baghdad. A joint statement said that the two sides recognize major progress in reducing the threat of ISIL. The U.S. also reiterated that it does not seek nor request permanent bases or a permanent military presence in Iraq. Iraqi lawmakers voted earlier this year for the exit of foreign troops.
