Activists in China released a pangolin into the wild to celebrate new protections for the armadillo-like animal whose numbers in the country have dropped to near extinction levels.

China ordered on June 5 its highest level of protection for the armadillo-like pangolin as part of its crackdown on the wildlife trade amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
