Li Jian, resident of Fulou Village, Bujiang Town, Tongbai County of Nanyang City, central China's Henan Province, lost his right arm due to an accidental electric shock in 2011. Three years later, Li's family was registered as an impoverished household. /Xinhua

With help from the local poverty alleviation work team and other residents, Li started learning how to grow green onions and mushrooms, a profession that eventually provided his family with an income above the poverty line in 2016. /Xinhua

No longer at risk of poverty, Li wanted to do something to repay his fellow villagers for their help and kindness. In 2018, Li was elected as the secretary of the Party branch of Fulou Village. /Xinhua

Over the years, Li led villagers to build mushroom greenhouses and set up poverty alleviation workshops to help those in poverty increase their incomes. /Xinhua

Since 2018, a total of 32 households and 45 individuals in Fulou Village have been lifted out of poverty. /Xinhua
