Kyrgyz Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev has resigned following allegations of corruption, the government said on Monday.

"In connection with the accusations made against the government in a criminal case related to the extension and renewal of radio frequency resources, in the interests of an objective and comprehensive investigation and in order to avoid accusations of exerting pressure on the investigating authorities, I decided to take short-term leave," Abylgaziev said in a message.

Abylgaziev, who had already taken a two-week leave of absence, denied any involvement in the case and all accusations against him, saying the accusations by parliament have no basis, according to the statement.

The Kyrgyz parliament raised the issue of the sale of radio frequencies, which was followed by a number of deputies demanding Abylgaziev prove his innocence against the corruption allegations.

"During my two-week vacation, the investigating authorities did not contact me with any questions. I am sure that the investigation will put everything in its place and identify the true perpetrators of the violation of the law," he said.

Abylgaziev, 52, was appointed on April 20, 2018.
