Israeli gov't approves new settlement in Golan Heights

Israel has approved controversial plans to build a new settlement in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The settlement is to be named after U.S. President Donald Trump who supports the move. Israel captured the region from Syria during a 1967 conflict and annexed it in 1981. The vast majority of the international community considers the settlement illegal under international law. The announcement comes just weeks before the Israeli prime minister hopes to begin planning for more annexations of the West Bank territory.
