Beijing on Saturday adopted a revision that stresses the centralized and unified leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee  and the Central Military Commission over the country's armed forces.

Approved at a session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, the revised law is set to take effect on Sunday.

According to the revised law, the armed police force is an important part of the armed forces of the People's Republic of China, and they are tasked with patrolling, handling security emergencies, and preventing and handling terrorist activities.

The soldiers must conduct maritime law enforcement, and take part in rescue efforts, among other responsibilities.
