Dortmund wrapped up second place in the penultimate round of the Bundesliga, beating RB Leipzig 2-0 away on Saturday.

Both goals came from the Norwegian teenager Erling Haaland who kept up his sensational scoring run since his January arrival, taking his tally to 13 goals in 10 German League starts.

This was the fifth time Dortmund have finished the season behind Bayern Munich as runners-up within eight years.

With this win, Dortmund advanced to 69 points while Leipzig stayed in third place on 63 with just one more match to play next Saturday.

Leipzig are guaranteed a berth in next season's Champions League, though, after Bayer Leverkusen also lost on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski broke the record held by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the most goals scored by a foreigner in a Bundesliga season.

Lewandowski scored twice in the first half against Freiburg to give him 33 league goals in 30 matches this season, having netted a total of 48 times in 41 games in all competitions.

The Poland striker's tally beats the previous record of 31 goals set by Gabon striker Aubameyang in 2016/17 for Borussia Dortmund before he moved to present club Arsenal the following season.

With the Bundesliga season due to end next Saturday, Lewandowski is well short of Gerd Mueller's remarkable all-time record for the most goals in a German league season when he scored 40 in 1971/72.

Bayern won the Bundesliga title for the eighth consecutive time on June 16. They will face Leverkusen in the German Cup final on July 4.

As for the Champions League, Bayern routed Chelsea 3-0 in London in the first leg of their last-16 encounter earlier in March before the Champions League grounded to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.
