At the height of the coronavirus pandemic in Slovakia, Roman Benedek, a pilot and software engineer, made a public appeal on social media for pilots with private jets to form a volunteer team to deliver masks, thermometers, protective suits and other supplies around the country. Within a week, more than 80 pilots had responded.

Their speedy operation surprised many of those seeking help. They set up web portals to match the nearest airport and available aircraft, and also shared their experience with other countries, such as the Czech Republic and the UK.
