Hong Kong police banned a rally, scheduled for next Wednesday, and a gathering, scheduled for Sunday, citing social distancing regulations brought to the city by the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made in an official statement by the police on Friday.
The rules prohibit gatherings of more than 50 people.
The police believe a public gathering or rally at this time will increase the risk of people spreading the virus, which in turn will pose a threat to residents' health and safety.
