Beauty salons, gyms reopen in western India despite rising COVID-19 cases

Gyms and hair salons in India's western state of Maharashtra are reopening, despite the raging coronavirus pandemic.

Maharashtra is home to India's financial hub of Mumbai and accounts for more than 25 percent of the country's cases.

Earlier this month, India allowed several public places to reopen after the 2-month-long closure, but the federal government has extended the lockdown in high-risk zones.

India reported nearly 20,000 new positive cases on Sunday. That's pushed its total above 500,000.

So far, India has the world's 4th biggest outbreak of COVID-19, after the United States, Brazil, and Russia.
