Expert: Judicial power by Hong Kong courts devolved under Basic Law

Chinese lawmakers have voted to pass the national security law for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The central government will have jurisdiction over some cases related to national security. Some critics say that it will topple the legal firewall between courts in Hong Kong and those on the Chinese mainland. Alex Fan, barrister-at-law and Founding President of the International Youth Legal Exchange Federation says he doesn't agree with the description "legal firewall". He stresses that the judicial power by Hong Kong courts is devolved under the Basic Law.
