The 20th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, unanimously passed the new national security law for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Tuesday. Four young leaders of separatist group Demosisto announced their resignations on the same day. Joshua Wong, Nathan Law, Jeffrey Ngo and Agnes Chow said they were ending their involvement with Demosisto. Demosisto was disbanded just a few hours after the announcement. Anson Chan and Chen Yun, prominent figures in the city's unrest, had previously said they were quitting politics.
