The COVID-19 global pandemic is the most extensive to afflict humanity in a century. For China, the COVID-19 epidemic is a major public health emergency with the fastest spreading speed, the widest range of infection, and the most difficult prevention and control since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. In this big test of the century, the Communist Party of China (CPC) led China to hand over an excellent answer sheet, winning praise at home and abroad.

Many foreign experts have attributed China's great achievements, especially in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, to the strength of organization, mobilization, coordination, and high-level national governance capacity of the CPC. However, few experts have been able to deeply explore the root of the CPC's powerful capabilities.

If we review the CPC's history of nearly 100 years, we will find that compared with other political parties, the real winning secret and the greatest advantage of the CPC is the people-oriented governance philosophy.

The people-oriented governance philosophy means "upholding the supremacy of the people, relying on the people closely, benefiting the people continuously and being firmly rooted in the people." All policy decisions are based on the people's fundamental and long-term interests as the starting point and ultimate goal.

The CPC has won national independence and liberation, established and built a new China, carried out reform and opening up, promoted socialist modernization, and strived to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, so as to benefit the people and improve their standard of living.

The people are the creators of history. They have the first-hand experience and the right judgment as to whether a Party's policy decision is in the interests of the people. When the people approve of a decision, they not only support it but also actively participate in the implementation of decisions. This is reflected in the strong ability of organization, mobilization, and coordination in decision implementation.

From this point of view, institutional advantages such as "mobilizing resources to accomplish major initiatives" are determined by the fact that the CPC's decision-making benefits the people.

The CPC's policy decisions to fight against the COVID-19 epidemic have displayed that the people's interest is its top priority.

At a critical time when people's lives and health were endangered, the CPC and the Chinese government acted with a keen sense of responsibility and swiftly identified the problem. The central authorities considered multiple factors, made timely and resolute decisions, employed extraordinary measures to deal with an extraordinary emergency.

The CPC and the Chinese government decided to treat COVID-19 patients regardless of the cost, to maximize the detection rate and cure rate and minimize the infection rate and death rate.

People are willing to temporarily sacrifice their own economic interests and freedom of movement and strictly abide by social distancing rules because they know that such strict prevention and control measures are to ensure the safety of people's life. People's active participation is the source of strength for efficient organization, mobilization, and coordination.

And look at what the United States has done in this pandemic. The U.S. government first deliberately concealed the fact that the virus has spread on a large scale in the country. After the fact could not be covered up, the U.S. administration blamed other countries and the World Health Organization (WHO) for its own mistakes. In the end, the U.S. has finally achieved its global "lead" in the number of confirmed cases and deaths.

In today's increasingly globalized world, any country's security and development cannot be isolated from other countries and outside the world system. China should undertake more global responsibilities and maintain international cooperation while ensuring its domestic development goals.

What should China do? The CPC has given the answer, which is to fully consider the common interests of the people of the world, work together to meet the challenges, carry out global cooperation and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

All of the CPC's policy decisions in the fight against COVID-19 are a testament to this answer.

First of all, as a big country with 20 percent of the world's population, China's excellent epidemic prevention is already a huge contribution to the world's fight against the pandemic.

Moreover, China has fought shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the world, contributed valuable resources to build a global community of health for all. China has shared epidemic prevention and treatment programs with 180 countries and more than 10 international and regional organizations, sent over 20 medical expert groups and provided medical supplies and services to more than 150 countries and international organizations, and donated 50 million U.S. dollars to the WHO.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the opening of the 73rd session of the World Health Assembly in May that "COVID-19 vaccine development and deployment in China, when available, will be made a global public good. This will be China's contribution to ensuring vaccine accessibility and affordability in developing countries."

As long as the CPC always adheres to the people-oriented governance philosophy, it will be able to meet any risks and challenges, lead the Chinese people to realize the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; as long as the CPC always adheres to the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, it will play an increasingly important role in assuming global responsibility and maintaining international cooperation and achieving the common well-being of the people of the world.
