Beijing reports 1 new COVID-19 case, 2 discharged from hospital

One new locally transmitted COVID-19 case was reported in Beijing on Wednesday, raising the total infections in the city to 329 since June 11, when the first case from the Xinfadi market cluster was detected, the Beijing Health Commission said on Thursday.

The new case was reported in Beijing's Fengtai District. The 44-year-old male, staff member from Xinfadi market was put into centralized quarantine on June 15.

Four patients from the local cluster have recovered as of Wednesday, while the other 325 patients are still hospitalized.

The situation in the Chinese capital is "stabilizing and improving" as Wednesday marked the fourth consecutive day with a single digit increase in new cases, municipal officials told a press briefing on Thursday afternoon, though they warned that "the risk still exists."

According to the Beijing health commission, two new asymptomatic cases were detected in the Chinese capital on Wednesday. So far, a total of 28 asymptomatic cases are under medical observation.

As of 3:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, Beijing has a total of 27 areas labelled second level risk for the coronavirus, with three others as high level, according to a mobile application by the State Council.
