After five years under construction, the Afuzhun Railway is finally ready to be put into use. Construction on the 420-kilometer-long railway began in December 2015, and the final track was laid on the last section, linking Fuyun and Altay, on July 2. The railway will provide passenger and freight services and is scheduled to become operational on August 30. It is expected to improve transportation efficiency and promote regional economic development in northern Xinjiang.
