Luo Huining designated as adviser of HKSAR Committee for Safeguarding National Security

Luo Huining was designated as the national security adviser of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), China's State Council announced on Friday. 

Luo is also serving as director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR. 

Under the supervision of, and accountable to the central government, the committee will be responsible for safeguarding national security in the region.

Earlier, Chan Kwok-ki was appointed by China's State Council as secretary-general of the committee, upon nomination by HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam.

On Friday, the State Council also announced that Zheng Yanxiong was appointed as head of the office for safeguarding national security in the HKSAR. 

Li Jiangzhou and Sun Qingye were appointed as deputy heads of the office, according to the State Council.
