According to the research team of the School of Life Sciences, Peking University, 18 cameras distributed in an area of northwest China's Qinghai Province in the Qilian Mountains National Park detected the Chinese mountain cats 13 times within 9 days, while the research team witnessed Chinese mountain cats 7 times.

The Chinese mountain cats have a small population, and such a high encounter rate indicates that the density of the species is high in the Qinghai area of the Qilian Mountains National Park.
