Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) police brought their first charge on a 24-year-old man with one count of inciting others for secession and one count of terrorist activity for breaching the National Security Law, the police said in a statement.
The man drove a motorcycle which displayed a flag bearing the words "Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Time" into several police officers on duty in Wan Chai, causing three officers to sustain hand and knee injuries.
The man tried to fly to the UK on July 1 and was arrested in the cabin before taking off, and the prosecution described the case as serious since he had attacked a police officer and then bought a plane ticket to leave immediately.
Also noting the seriousness of the case, the magistrate objected to the defendant's application for bail and adjourned the case until August 24 for further arraignment.
