Somalia, China reiterate respect of each other's sovereignty, territorial integrity

Somali President Mohamed Farmajo has held talks with Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Qin Jian, focusing on the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries.

During the meeting held at the president's office on Saturday, the two sides stressed the importance of strengthening the historical relationship between the two countries and their people.

Farmajo welcomed China's support for Somalia's unity and sovereignty and guaranteed Somali's unwavering respect for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"The two sides emphasized the shared vision of respecting each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Farmajo said in a statement issued on Saturday evening.

The Somalian leader reiterated that Mogadishu respects the one-China principle.

Speaking during the meeting, Qin reaffirmed the Chinese government's commitments to respect the sovereignty and unity of Somalia.

The two countries enjoy a long history of friendship and Somalia was the first country in East Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China.
