China urges UK to withdraw wrong decision against Chinese media

China on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the British media regulator's decision against Chinese media and urged the institution to withdraw its "wrong decision".

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks at a press briefing, hitting the Ofcom regulator's verdict.

Ofcom earlier said that CGTN had committed a breach of broadcasting rules by airing the confession of the British businessman Peter Humphrey.

Noting that it is not the first time for the UK to make a wrong decision against Chinese media, Zhao stressed that China is firmly opposed to set up artificial barriers to Chinese media's regular news report in the UK.

Regarding the trial then of the Humphrey case, Zhao reiterated that China is a country with the rule of law and Chinese judicial organs protect the legitimate rights of foreigners in China in accordance with the law when handling their cases.

Humphrey pleaded guilty and demonstrated repentance during the execution of punishment and was released on June 9, 2015, the spokesperson added.

Zhao hoped the UK would render support and convenience to foreign media in carrying out their work in the country.
