Fans of U.S. sitcom "Friends" have been looking forward to the cast's reunion since rumors began swirling online last year. Now, David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller in the show, says the sextet will get back together when it's safe to do so.

The special show, which was set to feature the original cast of the hit sitcom, was supposed to be part of the May launch of the new HBO Max streaming service but the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into the plan.

Schwimmer said the show could be taped in August or "when it's safe to do so." Filming might even happen in front of an audience. The reunion will be unscripted and "basically an interview with all six of us reuniting for literally the first time in 10 years."

"Friends," which ran on U.S. television from 1994 to 2004, won dozens of awards and was a launching pad for Jennifer Aniston and her co-stars. It is often considered one of the best sitcoms even years after it ended.
