A new temporary COVID-19 hospital for 10,000 patients opened in New Delhi, capital of India, as the country grapples with rapidly rising cases.

The hospital was put to use on the same day that India reported a record single-day spike of 24,850 new cases and more than 600 deaths.

Meanwhile, India is facing another challenge with monsoon rains which could scuttle containment efforts by causing a further rise in infections.

So far, India is the third worst-hit country globally with more than 697,000 cases.
