Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday congratulated Luis Abinader on his election as president of the Dominican Republic. 

In his congratulatory message, Xi hailed rapid development of the relations between China and the Dominican Republic since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 2018, noting that their political mutual trust has been strengthened and practical cooperation in various fields has been fruitful. 

Xi said he is willing to make joint efforts with President-elect Abinader to deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. 

Abinader won the presidential election in the Caribbean nation on Sunday.
