China's first intelligent marine monitoring system, also known as Automatic Identification System with VHF Digital Link (AIS-VDL), is in use for the first time on July 11, China's National Maritime Day. The Navigation Guarantee Center of North China Sea (NGCN) worked together with Dalian Maritime University to develop the system for identifying illicit behaviors on waters. The NGCN and Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration test the AIS-VDL system together in an operation to maintain marine radio order.
