U.S. short video platform Quibi has greenlit a television series based on the Japanese horror manga "Tomie" by Junji Ito, entertainment news website Deadline reported on Thursday.

The lead actress will be Adeline Rudolph, who is known for her role in horror web television series "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina". She will play the main character Tomie Kawakami, a high school student familiar to readers with her sleek long black hair and creepy smile.

A mysterious creature who can regenerate from just a piece of her body and has therefore achieved immortality, Tomie often uses her beauty to seduce people and lead them to violence or even death through psychological manipulation.

The series is being created by director-producer Alexandre Aja and writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who are also both executive producing.

News of the TV adaptation immediately prompted much discussion on Sina Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, with many Chinese fans of "Tomie" saying the casting was "a great choice" and that they were looking forward to the series.
