California to release 8,000 prisoners to slow COVID-19 pandemic

One of the hardest-hit states of the U.S., California plans to release up to 8,000 prison inmates early, before the end of August. The move is aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19 in the state's jails. Many rights groups are welcoming the decision but say it's too little too late.
