The Bachchans, one of Bollywood's most famous families, are the latest high-profile entry to India's rapidly growing COVID-19 list. But a tweet by the health minister of India's Maharashtra state has caused some confusion over how many members of the family have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
On Sunday, Rajesh Tope, Maharashtra's health minister, announced on Twitter that former Miss World (1994) and actress Aishwarya Rai and her daughter Aaradhya had tested positive for COVID-19, while her mother-in-law, also a veteran actress, Jaya Bachchan tested negative.

The news of the "Pride and Prejudice" actress contracting the virus soon flashed on several local and international platforms. But the minister's tweet was deleted within a few minutes. So far, neither Tope nor any other government official has offered clarification on the issue, leaving the former beauty queen's fans and family's well-wishers anxious.
This comes less than a day after Rai's 77-year-old father-in-law and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, also known as Sr. Bachchan, revealed on Twitter that his COVID-19 test result was positive. Minutes later, his son Abhishek Bachchan, 44, also known as Jr. Bachchan, took to the social media platform to inform his fans that he had the coronavirus as well.
The father-son duo is currently admitted to Mumbai's posh Nanavati Hospital.
"Amitabh Bachchan is stable and has mild symptoms," hospital authorities said, adding the senior actor is in an isolation ward.
According to reports, the family's staff members, at least 20 people, have also been tested for the virus, results to which are awaited.
The family's 10,500 sq. feet bungalow, called Jalsa, in Mumbai has been sealed off and declared a contaminated zone and all residents have been placed under a 14-day quarantine.
