High-profile Twitter accounts , including U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, former U.S. President Barack Obama, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and billionaire Elon Musk, among many others, were used to offer fake bitcoin deals. The compromised accounts sent tweets telling followers that if they transferred cryptocurrency to a specific bitcoin wallet, they would receive double the money in return.

Twitter has provided no information about the severe security loophole that was found and used by hackers.
