This year marks the 17th edition of Cannes Classics, which displays heritage films in their restored copies. Because of the coronavirus, the Cannes Film Festival was canceled for the first time since World War II.

Films featured in the Cannes Classics will be screened at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, which is slated for October 10-18, and at the Rencontres Cinématographiques of Cannes from November 23 to 26.

"In the Mood for Love" is marking its 20th anniversary this year. Starring Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, the film premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and received nominations for the Palme d'Or that year. Toney Leung also pocketed the Best Actor award.

Meanwhile, Sang Hu's "New Year Sacrifice" is based on a novel by Lu Xun, a renowned Chinese writer and a leading figure of modern Chinese literature.

The film was submitted by the Shanghai International Film Festival, which has focused on restoring classic Chinese films in recent years. The Shanghai International Film Festival introduced in 2011 a category for 4K restorations of classic films.

Held annually in June, the Shanghai Film Festival announced it is postponing this year's events without setting a new date.
