Three South China tiger cubs were born in April in China's primary zoo housing the rare species, bringing the total number of such tigers to 48, the zoo said Tuesday.

The three cubs, a pair of male twins and one female, were born on April 26 and April 28, respectively. The cubs are being cared for by their keepers and in good health, according to the Wangcheng Park Zoo in the city of Luoyang in central China's Henan Province.

The South China tiger is a rare kind of tiger with a population of only 203 in captivity worldwide by November last year. The city of Luoyang has had the greatest number of South China tigers in China for six consecutive years.
