CBA highlights on July 17: Tonight belongs to the foreign players

Foreign players became the biggest heroes in the two games on Friday night. Joseph Young scored 49 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals while his teammate Hamed Haddadi had 27 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks to help the Nanjing Monkey Kings defeat the Jilin Northeast Tigers 111-95. In the other game in which the Liaoning Flying Leopards walked over the Fujian Sturgeons 121-101, Han Dejun dropped a big double-double of 30 points, 20 rebounds for Liaoning, but he was outshined by O.J. Mayo who got 44 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Ty Lawson though put down another triple-double of 23 points, 11 rebounds and 16 assists for Fujian, he could not keep the team from another loss.

The Qingdao Eagles defeated the Beijing Royal Fighters 95-91, giving the opponents their second loss in a row. The Royal Fighters could not find the basketball at all as they only scored 30 points in the first half. Qingdao exploded in offense in Q3 and established a 24-point-lead. Sun Yue who went 0-7 in the first half, led the Royal Fighters to launch the last attack with four triples in the last quarter. The score was tied several times in the last four minutes but Qingdao ended as the winning side thanks to valuable 3-pointer by Wang Qing Ming.

The Shanghai Sharks managed to overcome a 19-point trail to claim a comeback win over the Bayi Rockets 97-90. Bayi had the chance to avoid three losses in a row as they led 34-15 in the first quarter and once led by 18 points in Q3. However, Shanghai began to rain 3-pointers in the last quarter to gain the lead with a 37-12 run, putting the win in their pocket.

Though their franchise player Zhou Qi sat on the game, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers managed to come back to defeat the Shandong Heroes 107-94 on Friday. Tang Caiyu dropped court-high 25 points and buried six triples for Xinjiang. His teammate Fan Ziming had 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.
