Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui will be attending a series of East Asian cooperation meetings through video conferences over the topics of coronavirus responses and development, China's Foreign Ministry said Friday.

Meetings including that of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ASEAN Plus Three or APT), the East Asia Summit and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Senior Officials Meeting will be convened from July 20-21, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced at Friday's press conference.

Asked about the expectations for the meetings, Hua said that China is hoping to reach political consensus and facilitate practical cooperation through the meetings on forming plans of joint coronavirus responses and development as well as preparing for series of regional cooperation meetings of foreign ministers and other leaders later this year.

Noting that countries in the region are still at a critical period in fighting the virus and recovering from the pandemic, the spokesperson said that these meetings will help make contributions to regional peace and prosperity.

Hua said that the pioneering regional cooperation of East Asian countries since the pandemic has made a good model of international anti-COVID-19 efforts as the pandemic hit various countries and significantly affected people's life, society and economy.
