Second-generation lotus flowers from ancient blossoms are brightening up the Old Summer Palace – Yuanmingyuan in Chinese. The popular lotuses germinated from seeds that had laid dormant underground for more than 100 years and were first discovered from a pond in the park in 2017, and they bloomed for the first time in 2019. This kind of propagation has maintained the genomic stability of the ancient species.
