A baby Malabar pied hornbill was captured on camera getting out of the nest and flying for the first time in a nature reserve in southwest China.

The debut took some preparation, as well as courage of the baby bird.

The hornbill, a second-class protected animal in China, is one of the five species of hornbills in the country. They usually build their houses in trees; however, they may also choose cliffs for breeding in an area of karst topography.
