A tsunami warning was canceled after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 degrees jolted the sea area 105 kilometers southeast of Perryville, Alaska at 0612 GMT on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center.

The tsunami warnings were issued for parts of the coastal regions of South Alaska, the Alaskan Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands following the quake.

The center said a tsunami was generated, but no longer posed a threat in an update, adding that some areas may continue to see small sea level changes.

At a depth of 10 kilometers, the epicenter was initially determined to be at 55.105 degrees north latitude and 158.473 degrees west longitude.
