The oceanic department of Qingdao City in east China's Shandong Province has been placing artificial reefs to build "ocean farms" to improve local marine environment since April.

Experts explained that an artificial reef is a man-made underwater structure that provides a place for algae and invertebrates to attach, attracting marine life and creating a better ecological environment. Currently, there are 21 "ocean farms" under construction with over three million cubic meters of artificial reefs on the seabed.
