Brazil on Thursday registered nearly 60,000 new cases of coronavirus and 1,311 new deaths, said the country's health ministry, bringing the total infections to 2,287,475. Brazil has the world's second worst outbreak, after the United States, in both numbers of total cases and deaths.
Chile on Thursday reported that a total of 338,759 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 8,838 have died from the disease. According to the country's health ministry, in the previous 24 hours, tests detected 2,371 new cases of infection and 116 more COVID-19 patients died.
The Irish government on Thursday announced a 7.4-billion-euro (8.6-billion-U.S. dollars) jobs stimulus package in order to recover the country's economy, which has been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Italy's parliament on Thursday designated March 18 as National Day in Memory of COVID-19 victims, and the government approved borrowing 25 billion euros to prop up the country's economy as it struggles to recover from the pandemic.
