Chinese electricians succeeded for the first time in replacing live-line 1000kv ultra-high voltage synthetic insulators in a mountainous area. The synthetic insulators, an important part of the tower linking the ultra-high voltage transmission lines, needed to be properly replaced and maintained. Three-year-long preparations resulted in the safe live-line operation, which is a major breakthrough for China's power industry.
