Army-trained dogs can accurately detect COVID-19 patients, a pilot project led by the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover showed. /CFP
With only a few days of training, eight German dogs were able to identify saliva samples from people infected with COVID-19 with a 94-percent success rate. /CFP
The dogs were challenged to sniff out COVID-19 in saliva samples from more than 1,000 healthy and infected people. /CFP
As Prof. Maren Von Köckritz-Blickwede from the project suggested, dogs have a more delicate sense of smell, thus they are capable of detecting "a specific smell of the metabolic changes that occur in those patients." /CFP
