Aubameyang leads Arsenal to FA Cup triumph

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice and led the Gunners to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final in an empty Wembley on Saturday, claiming their 14th title in the competition.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta became the first man to win the trophy as a captain and manager with the north London club.

The Spaniard worked as an assistant to Manchester City's Pep Guardiola before being appointed head coach of Arsenal as a replacement for Unai Emery in December 2019.

Christian Pulisic had given Chelsea the dream start, but the Blues unraveled after Aubameyang was brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta inside the area and converted the resulting penalty, equalizing the score at 1-1 before halftime.

Aubameyang then fired home his side's second goal with excellent footwork in the penalty area in the 67th minute.

Chelsea suffered more than losing a game, as Azpilicueta and Pulisic pulled up with hamstring injuries that will almost certainly rule them out of the Champions League last 16, second leg against Bayern Munich next weekend.

The victory secured Arsenal a spot in next season's Europa League, and made sure that they did not miss out on European football for the first time in 25 years.

Arteta believes Aubameyang will commit his long-term future to the Gunners.

"He knows what I think about him, I want to build a squad around him," said Arteta.

"I think moments like that will help to realize and give him belief that we are in the right path and he is a big part of it.

"He is loved by everyone at the club so hopefully he will continue with us."
