The Potala Palace is an iconic 1,300-year-old structure in China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Its highest point is 3,750 meters above sea level and it is regarded as one of the symbols of Tibetan Buddhism. The Potala Palace was originally built in the seventh century by Songtsen Gampo, and was rebuilt and extended during the 17th century. Today, it has become the most famous tourist attraction in Tibet.
