Everlasting Classics: Pop singer and opera actor reinterpret ancient melody
03:00

Remember the bridge that crossed Green Creek?

Not one of its scarlet planks is left.

The stream flows on, but few men cross.

And in the cold sunset, only a single willow dances slow.

The poem is from The Peach Blossom Fan, a famous musical play in Kunqu Opera. After 10 years of writing, the drama was completed by playwright Kong Shangren in 1699 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The collapse of the Ming Dynasty and rise of the Qing Dynasty are reflected in the love story between the play's two main characters, young scholar Hou Fangyu and courtesan Li Xiangjun.
