5G technology means a radical change for the better for a host of high-tech sectors, including cloud gaming.

CGTN, together with League of Legends game streaming host Xi Ran, took a stroll through ChinaJoy 2020 where the 5G cloud gaming sector is seeing a transformation in high-tech games, fashion and costumes.

ChinaJoy is Asia's largest gamer expo with a total area of 125,000 square meters and 400 exhibitors. The expo saw a diverse crowd and showcased a variety of games, fashion, costumes and high-tech.

Xi noted how the expo is a special event hosted six-months into the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Apparently it's a very tough time for everyone. But I am really happy that our game was still enjoyed by people from different countries, different backgrounds. And we are still doing our work," she said.

One of the highlights of this year's ChinaJoy is 5G cloud gaming. Cloud technology allows gamers to play anywhere, at any time and on any device, without having to download the game first.

Cloud gaming is not a new concept. But why is it growing so fast now? The answer is 5G. Zou Dandan, product manager of Legend Cloud Gaming Platform, said that cloud gaming was initiated many years ago, but network limitations have kept it from developing faster.

"5G has high bandwidth and low latency, and with that, internet speeds have jumped significantly. The gaming is of higher quality," Zou added.

The China Game Industry Report revealed that in the first half of 2020, China's online game revenue jumped 20 percent year on year to nearly 140 billion yuan.

With the establishment of the Global Cloud Gaming Alliance at this year's ChinaJoy promoting cooperation and development in cloud gaming, the video game industry is expecting a sea change in the near future.
