Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality is stepping up law enforcement to protect precious fish species in the upper section of the Yangtze River.

A 10-year fishing ban took effect on January 1, 2020, aimed at preserving the aquatic life in the longest river of China.

The upper section of the river in the southwest is home to over 100 unique fish species, including the Yangtze sturgeon and the Chinese high-fin banded shark.
