Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was trying to draw an iron curtain and stoke new division in the 21st century, as china upholds win-win cooperation and promotes global cooperation.

Wang made the remarks in an interview with Xinhua News Agency.

On July 23, Pompeo said at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library that U.S. engagement with China has failed and that Washington and its allies must use "more creative and assertive ways" to press the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) to change its ways.

China's foreign ministry has called the speech a "malicious attack" on the CPC and China's political system, saying Pompeo's accusation was "baseless, fact-distorting" and "full of ideological prejudice and a Cold-War mindset."

"China achieved freedom from imperialism and colonialism. Freedom, democracy and rule of law are codified in China's Constitution," he said. 

Asked whether the U.S. will be able to forge an anti-China alliance, Wang said such act goes against the trends of our time and few will back it. 

Wang  also stressed the need of "a new type of international relations," elaborating that China values peace and cooperation and advocates win-win cooperation.

China endeavors to forge a global network of cooperation, Wang said, urging the world to abandon a zero-sum mentality.
