China's National Meteorological Center first issued a blue alert for Hagupit on Sunday, and soon upgraded the alert to yellow on Monday morning before elevating it to orange on Monday afternoon. /VCG

The alert is based on a four-tier color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue. /VCG
