The migratory birds' population and wetland area in Manas wetland in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have been increasing each year as conservation efforts pay off.

The wetland is an important habitat and breeding ground for migratory birds. In 2017, the number of migratory birds was over 6,000, but then the local government returned farmland and pasture to the wetland. The improved environment, abundant biodiversity, and ample food supply have attracted more birds.

According to the latest survey, there have been over 40,000 summer resident birds this year, almost twice that of last year.

Summer resident birds like egrets, cormorants, and Pallas's gulls often breed in May and June in the northern region and fly to the warm southern region with their fledglings in October.
