China firmly defends its sovereignty, security and development interests and firmly safeguards and stabilizes its relations with the United States, said Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.

Yang made the remarks in a signed article on China-U.S. relations, when he made responses to some U.S. politicians' false statements against China. The article was published by Xinhua News Agency on Friday. 

A sound and stable China-U.S. relationship affects the well-being of China, the U.S. and the world at large, both now and in the future, Yang stressed. "We must never allow a handful of self-serving U.S. politicians to push the relationship into serious jeopardy," he added.  

China hopes that the U.S. will work with China to foster enabling conditions for the implementation of the phase one trade agreement, Yang said. 

The U.S. must stop bullying Chinese companies, and provide a fair, open and non-discriminatory environment for their operation and investment, he pointed out.
