At least 21 people were shot and one killed after multiple people opened gunfire at a large gathering in Washington D.C., according to the police.

The shooting started around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, the police said. The crime scene extended to several blocks in a residential neighborhood.

The deceased is a 17-year-old boy named Christopher Brown, local media reported.

At least seven of the wounded were taken to hospital in critical condition, according to the D.C. fire department.

D.C. police have not made any arrests.
