Mauritius has declared an environmental emergency after a bulk carrier offshore began leaking oil into the ocean. The vessel carrying nearly 4,000 tonnes of fuel ran aground on July 25. Ecologists fear the ship could break up, which would cause an even greater leak and inflict potentially catastrophic damage to the sea area and the island's coastline.
